Conference and Extra-Curricular Activities
for the XXX Annual International Ethology Conference
August 15-23 2007 Halifax NS

OPENING CEREMONY and Public Lecture

The conference will open with a Public Lecture by Hal Whitehead, Professor of Biology at Dalhousie University. Join us before the lecture for a reception with string quartet and cash bar.  You will then be welcomed to the conference in an opening ceremony including a bagpiper, a town crier, and you will be inducted into the Order of Good Cheer, the oldest social club in Canada, begun in Nova Scotia at Port Royal in 1604.  The reception will continue after the lecture.

CLOSING GALA DINNER

The closing dinner for the conference (included in your registration fees) will be held at the Cunard Centre (Pier 23) just next to the famous Pier 21, the “Gateway to Canada” for over 1 million people entering Canada between 1928 and 1971. It is now a National Historic Site, and during the Gala we will have access to the current exhibit presented in the museum. Dinner will be a traditional Lobster Supper (with vegetarian and non-seafood options available) and after dinner we will enjoy the sounds of the local gypsy jazz band Gypsophilia as we party on at the Halifax Waterfront.

EVENING RECEPTIONS

IEC attendees will have the opportunity on a first come, first serve basis to attend catered, private receptions in some of Halifax’s premiere locations of historical and cultural interest.  There are a limited number of spaces for each reception, so register early!  Cost to attend a reception includes transport between the conference site and reception site on a double decker bus, admission to the site, hors d’oeuvres, and private access to the features of the reception site. Cash bar will be available at all receptions.
